Segway Adventure

There were ten intrepid members of the Adventure Before Dementia group arriving at Sherwood Pines on Friday, 20th July. After ten minutes instruction we were already one down, but not out; a further five minutes instruction and we were off. We followed our instructor through the beautiful trails of Sherwood Pines. Just as we were settling into an easy sedate pace, the instructor altered the settings on the Segway and doubled the speed and we moved on to rougher terrain, one more down but not out. Both fallers were okay and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a great time and finished off with a coffee and a chat.

Horse-riding experience

Five of us arrived at the Woodside Riding Stables on a lovely sunny morning on Wednesday, 18th April. After registration we were given a hat to wear and then they brought the horses through, it wasn’t until we had to get on them that we realised how big they were, thankfully there was a mounting block and we were helped on by the staff.

We were taken into the paddock and taught how to make them stop and start and how to turn them left and right and then we went on the hack.

It was a lovely walk through the woods in Bestwood Country Park; the sun was shining through the trees, the horses were well behaved (mind you one of the horses was trying to get amorous with another which could have been a bit embarrassing), apart from that they were well behaved, the staff were friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Defibrillation and CPR Training

Ladies of the “God” Group enjoyed an interesting and very informative training session on the use of a defibrillator and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
It has been suggested that the men’s ‘Grumpy’ groups also attend a session – watch this space!

“Escape from a Room”

“Escape from a Room”
There were ten of us ready to decipher codes and various clues at Cryptology, we did however become a bit nervous as we climbed the staircase which had chains and bludgeons etc. on the wall!
We split into two groups, one The Crypt the other Cypherdyne for 60mins intense pressure trying to beat the clock and complete the tasks, can it be done? Mm why don’t you try it?
It was great fun and we would go again. They are moving to a new bigger venue in Nottingham in February with fresh ideas.
