At our meeting on 18 January we looked at our family trees. Maureen gave us all a chart and pencil to fill in the details we knew. This was a new experience for many of us, realising that we did not know the names of our grandparents and great-grandparents, especially the maiden names of the women. Many ‘new-comers’ to family history said they were interested in carrying on with the tree and some more work on this will probably be included in a future meeting.

On 15 February members will be telling us about the local large houses and castles they have been researching over the past few weeks. There is history hidden in our area that can interest us all.

Our speaker on 21 March is Stuart Rose, who will tell us about the history of Laxton and explain what we can expect to see on our visit later in the summer.

On 18th April we are planning to visit Southwell Minster for a guided tour. The cost of the tour is £5.00, members to make their own way to Southwell.

The 16th May meeting is a visit to St. Mary’s Church in Nottingham. Easy to get there by tram.

On 20th June we are visiting the Laxton Farming System. This will be a full day visit and the cost will be approximately £23.00 per person to include bus hire, refreshments on arrival, lunch and tea.
